Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Fake Portal.

Getting Started

What is Fake Portal?

Fake Portal is your destination for discovering indie games, reading honest reviews from real players, and curating your own collections. Think of it as a community-driven guide to the best indie games out there.

“I've been guarding this portal since before Steam had a queue. Trust me, you're in the right place.”
How do I get started?

Browse games, read reviews, and when you find something you like, add it to your wishlist. Once you've played a game, share your thoughts with a review!

“Step one: explore. Step two: play. Step three: tell everyone about it. Simple, really.”

Finding Games

How do I find games?

Use the Games directory to browse by genre, platform, or search for something specific. Filter by what matters to you—cozy games, roguelikes, horror, whatever you're in the mood for.

“The directory has filters. Use them. Or scroll forever. Your choice.”

Can I submit a game?

Reviews

How do I write a review?

Visit any game page and click 'Write a Review'. Share your honest opinion—whether you loved it, liked it, or think others should skip it. Be specific about what worked and what didn't.

“Honest reviews help everyone. Even if your opinion is wrong. (Kidding. Mostly.)”
What do Skip/Play/Complete mean?

Instead of star ratings, we use three recommendations: 'Skip' means don't bother, 'Play' means it's worth trying, and 'Complete' means play it to the end—it's that good.

“Stars are for restaurants. Games deserve clarity. Skip, Play, or Complete. Choose wisely.”
What are helpful votes?

When you read a review that helps you decide, mark it as helpful. This surfaces the best reviews and recognizes contributors who write quality content.

“Good reviews deserve recognition. Bad reviews deserve... silence.”

Lists & Collections

How do I create a list?

From your dashboard, go to Lists and create a new collection. Name it, add a description, and start adding games. Make it public to share with others or keep it private.

“'Best Metroidvanias of All Time' or 'Games I'll Never Finish'—both valid list concepts.”
Your Lists
Can I make lists private?

Yes! Each list can be set to Public (everyone sees it), Unlisted (only people with the link), or Private (just you).

“Your secret shame list can stay secret. I won't judge. Much.”

Your Account

How do I edit my profile?

Visit your dashboard and go to the Account section. You can change your display name, profile picture, bio, and linked social accounts.

“Make yourself memorable. Or don't. I'm not your marketing consultant.”

How do notifications work?

Get notified when someone replies to your review, follows you, or when games you follow have updates. Manage your notification preferences in account settings.

“Too many notifications? Adjust them. Too few? Get more interesting.”

Community

Can I follow other users?

Yes! Follow users whose taste you trust. Their reviews and lists will appear in your feed, making discovery even easier.

“Following isn't stalking when it's consensual. And digital.”

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you see something that violates our guidelines, use the report button on reviews or comments. Our moderation team reviews all reports.

“Keep it civil. Report problems. Don't feed the trolls. Simple rules.”
