As an avid fan of Horror games, I picked up Look Outside after hearing some great word of mouth, on top of the fact it only cost 10 dollars. After putting in 2 full playthroughs in 2025, Look Outside easily landed in my top 3 of the year, even inspiring me to make a full on video review of it for my channel. It's hard to encapsulate everything I loved about it but I'll do my best here. Look Outside casts you as a unemployed loser shut in, canonically named Sam but you can name him whatever you like. An unexplained event is currently happening on earth, it turning any man or animal into a horribly grotesque monster that typically attacks anyone on sight. You speak to your eccentric neighbor who tells you this, whatever this is, will all blow over in 15 days. Your food stocks are scarce however so you can't just hide in your apartment the whole time. You will unfortunately have to venture out into the apartment complex to find more supplies to survive. The massive apartment complex is absolutely teeming with all manner of horrifying aberrations that once used to be humans, animals or insect. Oftentimes being mixed with non-organic things like cars, vans or even the boiler of the apartment. (Side note; look up the Cop Car enemy if you want to see my favorite enemy in the game.) All of these enemies, as well as the game in general, are brought to life by the gruesome art-style presented in game, one that really ratchets up the body horror elements presented all across the apartment complex. As you battle your way across the complex, trying your best to stave off death and starvation, you'll run across others attempting to survive the madness. Some already afflicted by the thing outside and others who have not suffered the same fate. My first party consisted of me, 2 children, one who was covered in teeth, the other who was just a little hellion and the apartment complexes Janitor. My second consisted of a maladjusted Streamer, a mad woman who could shift into a giant toothy beast and roughly a million cockroaches in a trenchcoat. Your party members are all insanely flavorful and boast wildly different skills that make each of them incredibly unique and all of them are pretty usable. Some I do think are weaker than others but you can easily finish a game with most any party configuration. Even better, those party members chill in your apartment with you and can have unique interactions with other people you've sheltered from the nightmares outside. Some will even join you for some fun gaming sessions which, playing video games is actually pretty integral to your survival since playing games can teach you very useful combat skills to use against the horrors outside apartment 33. If you want my advice? Absolutely clear Super Jumplad for a very strong jump attack and Mad Wheels 97 for a super useful full party buff. Content wise, A single playthrough of Look Outside, provided you do everything available to you, will run about 12 to 15 hours. There are tons of quests to complete, Epic level monsters to battle and the game offers a ton of different endings that require all different requirements to fulfill. Not to mention tons of friendly, endearing NPCs to run across too. The combat is a pretty simple turn based affair, with enemies having specific weaknesses and resistances too. Ones that I think are pretty easy to sus out when in the field. Really, it's not too dissimilar to your average Pokemon game. (Hint; Fire beats Ice and Plants.) On top of all of this, this one also boasts an excellent soundtrack. I could listen to that basic battle soundtrack all day, honestly. Kept this one as spoiler free as possible in truth because I genuinely want you to play this game. Look Outside is easily a 10/10. Fantastic gameplay, world, party members, npcs, quests and well, everything. If you enjoy horror games, play this one. If you like turn based RPGs, play this one. You will not regret it.
