The game overall felt... boring. It is very simplistic but does get challenging later on in terms of strategy. The game does not support the Nintendo Pro Controller on Steam. I got it during the Winter Sale after seeing this game specificallyโฆ recommended by Fake Wizard in one of his videos. I absolutely love RTS games and since it was less than $4 I didn't even bother with the demo. I wish I had... I'm not sure if it was using the mouse or just the controls in general. But constantly moving the island around to see where the enemies were gave me motion sickness. It felt overwhelmingly easy on the easy setting to the point I was bored. But then it took about 40min of play time even on normal before I felt a bit of a challenge. By that point my brain and stomach had had enough of the controls. I haven't played it since and have contemplated asking Steam for a refund.
I am thankful there was a demo for this game. I got it on Steam for MacOS. The game looked good in its trailer, and I liked what I read in the description. However, very quickly during the game play became overwhelmingโฆ for me visually. There was a lot of bright colors and constant animation that it was difficult for me to tell who was near me and what I was actually doing with the various skills being used. I certainly like these top down Roguelike survival games. But after one play through, I knew it was not for me. I wanted to like it, but it's just to busy on the screen. It has positive reviews on Steam. So if that sort of animation style doesn't bother you, give the demo a try!
An absolutely phenomenal game, I'd put CrossCode on the same level as Hollow Knight, Celeste, Pizza Tower, Gravity Circuit, Rain World, Darkwood, ULTRAKILL, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Star of Providence, etc. as a must-play indie title. To go over the thingsโฆ that probably don't need to be elaborated on as much, the game visually looks great. It's not quite the best pixel art you'll ever see, but the game is consistently visually appealing with detailed sprites, tons of animations, and characters that are expressive and have all the portraits they possibly need to show their emotions over the course of the story. The story is also great, with fun and interesting characters and covering some surprisingly deep and dark themes. Can't say much because I don't want to spoil it, but the story is a great compliment to the excellent gameplay. The soundtrack is also great, not quite top tier but it's got plenty of great tracks that suit the environments and story beats very nicely and make traversing the world enjoyable. The only thing I think could've been better would be different battle music for different areas as while the battle music is great, it does get a bit repetitive with how long the game's total runtime can be. Speaking of, the combat is excellent and one of the two pillars of the game. It controls smooth and the enemies are intelligently designed that you have to use different tactics for most of them, whether it's ricocheting ranged attacks into a weakpoint, timing an attack well to interrupt them, using a certain element or perfect blocking to stun them. What really makes the combat great is the elemental system. On top of your standard moves you can switch to 4 different elements you unlock over the course of the game, each of which alters your stats, allows access to a large variety of super-moves and allows you to inflict different status effects. Across all the different elements there are a few dozen of these, and it makes the combat incredibly deep while still being approachable with how it introduces portions of it over time. By the endgame you're utilising all of it in some challenging and incredibly fun, well designed fights. The elements also are part of the other pillar of the game, puzzles. You get a taste of these in the overworld you'll explore, which is fun to traverse being packed with secrets and chests you'll need to find ways of getting to higher elevation to reach. Once you get into the dungeons the puzzles really shine though, early on they're already a decent challenge but as you progress the elements get used in different ways and start being combined together to make for puzzles more complex than anything you'll find in Zelda. Not liking puzzles is the only thing that might be a reason to not get the game, but if you enjoy them at all this game has them in spades. The final dungeon in the DLC adds one new mechanic that combines with all the others to create some seriously mind-bending puzzles that are incredibly satisfying to figure out. To top it all off, the game is also jam-packed with content. Despite having almost 100 hours, I still haven't done all of the sidequests and have barely touched the arena with gauntlets of enemies and bosses. Some of the side-quests are your typical fetch quests or "kill X enemies" but the majority are all unique and engaging in their own right. Some involve optional side dungeons and/or new bosses, some have unique set pieces like fighting on top of moving cars, and some change the game entirely being fun mini-games that put a twist on the mechanics or make it a whole other genre like tower defence. The DLC is also well worth it, because the base game already has more than enough content to justify its price as well as New Game+ with all sorts of ways to modify a playthrough to increase the challenge or put twists on it. The DLC just adds even more, including two areas (one of which is basically a gigantic dungeon), a more satisfying ending and also a new final boss that somehow tops the already insane final boss of the base game. At the price it's selling for there is no reason not to buy the game if you're remotely interested. You'll thank yourself later. Consider getting the game on GOG as it seems to go on sale more often there and you can get the game and DLC for $10 or less, which is an absolute steal for the quality and quantity of content on offer. It's truly a shame this game didn't get the attention it deserves.
I played this game for at least a hundred hours growing up. This was the epitome of childhood sports games. I can't believe they remade it but I recommend this for any one who likes baseball games, or if you want aโฆ good game for a child who it just getting into baseball!
Pros - Gameplay is even better than Fire Emblem with how much variation there is. - Art is phenomenal in my opinion - Characters and their interactions are the best part of the story so far Not pro or con - Storyโฆ is a bit slow and easy to ignore. I like what is there but its easy to get lost in the gameplay Con - The music isn't bad but I don't think it adds to the game very well as I opted to put on my own. - Being a indie fire emblem like game their are parts where there is no voice acting which slows down the story
I haven't finished it, but this is cute and fun. A great cozy game for cat lovers and would be great for kids. There are a few little bugs, but nothing that takes away from the game play. I never got stuckโฆ but there are a few little areas where the physics or walls don't quite work as you'd expect from the onscreen graphics. I'd give it an 8/10.
Welcome to the hardest climb em up ever made. This game is full of fun environments, challenging climbs, and mechanical tests that will leave your palms sweating and your fingers locked in place from the carpal tunnel. Climb harder and harder peaks,โฆ complete technical shows of skill on bouldering climbs, race against the clock to beat the record, or calculate every single hand placement like a trip across the Oregon trail with the one life iron man mode. Just remember that with every peak that you summit, a bigger more daunting tempest awaits. Even when you complete the final climb and crown yourself the solemn master of Peaks of Yore, continue the fun with the added DLC peaks, or the endless fun of community made Steam workshop content. I love this game, it's challenges make completion feel all the better. If you like games that challenge your mechanical skills and keeping calm under pressure you might love it too!
I haven't actually played, but I've watched the trailer and the looks super fun. I almost wish there was a AAA game where you were a cat living in a city - but this game seems like fun too! Definitely adding toโฆ my list and will update the review when I do!
A mixture of Fire Emblem like gameplay and familiar mechanics, Bahumut Lagoon Squad inspiration, the Unit building, the team building customization. I played it multiple times. If you get the DLC with it, then it willโฆ enchance your experience. Worth it.
Was introduced via Hypnotic. When I saw the gameplay and heard it was gaming crack I had to try. After achievement hunting I felt more hunger towards this game. I am happy to hear there will be updates in 2026, so Iโฆ will be sinking my teeth in it again.
If you like psychological thriller, point-and-click games with good story lines, this is a must play!!!
