Most unique game I've played in many years, the crazy vibrant and alien art-style that screams to your eyes non stop with very cool world design, and really fun platforming collectathon gameplay makes for a very unique and fun experience. I canโฆ not stress how highly underrated this game is.
As an avid fan of Horror games, I picked up Look Outside after hearing some great word of mouth, on top of the fact it only cost 10 dollars. After putting in 2 full playthroughs in 2025, Look Outside easily landed inโฆ my top 3 of the year, even inspiring me to make a full on video review of it for my channel. It's hard to encapsulate everything I loved about it but I'll do my best here. Look Outside casts you as a unemployed loser shut in, canonically named Sam but you can name him whatever you like. An unexplained event is currently happening on earth, it turning any man or animal into a horribly grotesque monster that typically attacks anyone on sight. You speak to your eccentric neighbor who tells you this, whatever this is, will all blow over in 15 days. Your food stocks are scarce however so you can't just hide in your apartment the whole time. You will unfortunately have to venture out into the apartment complex to find more supplies to survive. The massive apartment complex is absolutely teeming with all manner of horrifying aberrations that once used to be humans, animals or insect. Oftentimes being mixed with non-organic things like cars, vans or even the boiler of the apartment. (Side note; look up the Cop Car enemy if you want to see my favorite enemy in the game.) All of these enemies, as well as the game in general, are brought to life by the gruesome art-style presented in game, one that really ratchets up the body horror elements presented all across the apartment complex. As you battle your way across the complex, trying your best to stave off death and starvation, you'll run across others attempting to survive the madness. Some already afflicted by the thing outside and others who have not suffered the same fate. My first party consisted of me, 2 children, one who was covered in teeth, the other who was just a little hellion and the apartment complexes Janitor. My second consisted of a maladjusted Streamer, a mad woman who could shift into a giant toothy beast and roughly a million cockroaches in a trenchcoat. Your party members are all insanely flavorful and boast wildly different skills that make each of them incredibly unique and all of them are pretty usable. Some I do think are weaker than others but you can easily finish a game with most any party configuration. Even better, those party members chill in your apartment with you and can have unique interactions with other people you've sheltered from the nightmares outside. Some will even join you for some fun gaming sessions which, playing video games is actually pretty integral to your survival since playing games can teach you very useful combat skills to use against the horrors outside apartment 33. If you want my advice? Absolutely clear Super Jumplad for a very strong jump attack and Mad Wheels 97 for a super useful full party buff. Content wise, A single playthrough of Look Outside, provided you do everything available to you, will run about 12 to 15 hours. There are tons of quests to complete, Epic level monsters to battle and the game offers a ton of different endings that require all different requirements to fulfill. Not to mention tons of friendly, endearing NPCs to run across too. The combat is a pretty simple turn based affair, with enemies having specific weaknesses and resistances too. Ones that I think are pretty easy to sus out when in the field. Really, it's not too dissimilar to your average Pokemon game. (Hint; Fire beats Ice and Plants.) On top of all of this, this one also boasts an excellent soundtrack. I could listen to that basic battle soundtrack all day, honestly. Kept this one as spoiler free as possible in truth because I genuinely want you to play this game. Look Outside is easily a 10/10. Fantastic gameplay, world, party members, npcs, quests and well, everything. If you enjoy horror games, play this one. If you like turn based RPGs, play this one. You will not regret it.
If you have ever found coding to be fun, you will love this game. This is a puzzle game where the main obstacle is the parts of the factory you made hours ago getting in the way of your new progress... veryโฆ analogous to programming. The dynamics of how each building fit together allows for the perfect balance of creativity and optimization. All other factory games should use this as a reference for factory building mechanics and complexity. Shapez is Factorio boiled down to only pure abstract puzzle solving. Satisfactory is Factorio with added exploration and decoration to make a more generically appealing experience. Mindustry is Factorio with a heavy focus on deep combat and RTS mechanics. If you liked any of these games, I recommend playing Factorio.
Excellent pre-metroidvania like adventure-platformer design with a fun identity built around offbeat dark fantasy and tokusatsu inspirations. It can be fairly difficult at times but you'll get it with persistence. The excellent atmosphere and mood makes every area engaging and exciting toโฆ explore.
Wasn't expecting a lot, except a cute cat platformer game. But once the game started i got hooked. The artstyle, humor, gameplay, characters and the world are all great. Definitely a hidden gem to try out.
Whenever I talk to people about good combat design, I point to this game. It is as simple as it gets, but actually challenging, and very well presented. You'll remember this game for a long time for how well it distills funโฆ down to the simplest form.
This game allows you to build some of the most complex spacecraft I've ever imagined and also has plane and car style vehicles you can build. The campaign helps start you off with more manageable tools early and allows you to specializeโฆ in certain craft as you go until you eventually unlock all possible parts (or you can play in free mode and go crazy.) The physics engine is incredibly robust and even the slightest size or shape adjustment could mean the difference between a successful and failed launch.
Very much reminds me of Stardew Valley with more magic, and more pink. You can breed your animals to unlock cute, rare colours. And you can raise capybara's โค๏ธ It is still in development, last time I played the last 20 levelsโฆ of the mines weren't active and the final NPC didn't exist yet (Oct 2025). I play with a controller and the button mapping is a bit crummy to be brutally honest. It is fully customisable but there is one more action to perform (once you unlock all actions) than there are buttons on the controller. But overall, I love it. I'm waiting for the final update to release before I play again.
Really satisfying metroidvania with a lot of RPG mechanics and a lot of viable builds. Everything in this game is fun. From the exploration to the battle system and the npc interactions. I'd say it's even better than Hollow knight but iโฆ know i'd get bashed by someone in the internet if i said this. It is on the harder side of games though, it expects you to get good with the game mechanics but in a good way (Status ailments knowledge and reacton speed as well) but it gives you time to adjust to it)
It has good feeling mechanics (Like dodge, dash, double jump and a transformation to access places you've passed by before but couldn't enter) It's easy to know where to go and has nothing that feels unfair in term of cheap deaths. Itโฆ has good secrets and a way to find them easier later in the game and i don't remember anything that you can miss mid playthrough so it's up there in the metroidvanias i like.
Unless you have a very high end system the frame rate is horrible. Also, the controls have too many unique nuances that make the learn curve steeper than it should be. Its got good graphics, but I think there are better alternativesโฆ for snowboarding games.
This is a ghost investigation game with a heavy emphasis on the "investigation" part. While games like Phasmophobia take inspiration from ghost horror movie tropes, CSPPI leans much closer toward ghost hunting reality shows, requiring the player to piece together all cluesโฆ they can get from the ghost's appearance and behavior as well as the location's history from online resources and documents found on-site. There's no survival element and the player character is never in true danger though the atmosphere is consistently creepy, and investigating some of the more monstrous entities can still be a truly terrifying experience. The payoff for all that investigation work is getting to "release" the ghosts which leads to some genuinely wholesome emotional moments as well as a new piece for your growing ghost museum collection. Highly recommended if that sounds like your type of game.
